We often see job advertisements asking profile only in .doc format. It is a myth that .doc files or MS Word files are portable. MS has many versions of MS Word. And they keep on changing format. So document written in MS word 97 may not appear same as we had formatted it, since companies use updated(!) versions of MS Office.
Just to apply for a job do we have to update our MS Office and pay huge sum to MS! So what do we do. Assume those companies as sick and send them flowers! Nope start sending them resumes in .txt or .pdf files. Or give them a link pointing out your profile kept on your homepage. Its hard to take first steps but it always pays richer dividends in long run.
